The opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games began on Friday evening with Morocco’s Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, representing King Mohammed VI, on the Seine River, in France.
Akhannouch was accompanied by Morocco’s Ambassador to Paris, Samira Sitail.
This year’s opening ceremony was a departure from the traditional stadium setting and featured a unique 6-kilometer float parade along the Seine River, with the participation of the Moroccan sports delegation, to the enthusiastic cheers of the crowd.
Following the International Olympic Committee’s tradition of having a gender-balanced duo carry the national flag, Morocco’s flag was hoisted by golfer Ines Laklalech and equestrian Yassine Rahmouni.
Morocco is gearing to participate in the Summer Olympics, running until August 11, with a national roster of 42 male and 18 female athletes across 19 disciplines.
