Marrakech’s Regional Judicial Police Brigade (BRPJ) initiated an investigation on Wednesday, over alleged criminal activities involving two police inspectors suspected of extortion and corruption, well-informed sources reported.
Preliminary findings of the investigation showed that the two individuals are police officers with the ranks of principal inspector and inspector, who allegedly extorted money from a detainee in connection with a criminal case.
The two officers supposedly accepted a bribe from a family member of the defendant to refrain from carrying out one of their duties during routine measures.
The suspects have been placed in custody pending an ongoing investigation by the public prosecutor’s office to uncover more details.
The National Police (DGSN) will await the judicial inquiry outcome to determine appropriate administrative and disciplinary actions in case of regulatory violations.
