A massive wildfire in the Bourd Forest, located in the Charchara region of Aknoul district in Taza province, has ravaged approximately 30 hectares of forest land.
The fire broke out late Wednesday, affecting a variety of species including holm oak, Aleppo pine, and secondary grasses, as reported by Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP).
Mourad Essaafadi, the Provincial Director of the National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF) in Taza, confirmed that firefighting efforts were promptly mobilized.
A coordinated response team, comprising ANEF personnel, Civil Protection, local authorities, the Royal Gendarmerie, Auxiliary Forces, and the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), was dispatched to combat the blaze.
However, the firefighting efforts have faced significant challenges due to rugged terrain, shifting strong winds, high temperatures, and difficulties accessing the fire’s origin.
As of Thursday evening, intervention teams, supported by FAR ground units and two Canadair firefighting planes, continue to battle the blaze.
In addition, response teams are evacuating nearby residents as a precautionary measure.
