Jordan’s King Abdullah II dissolved the lower house of parliament on Thursday, ahead of fresh elections in September, the monarch announced the decision in a royal court statement, Anadolu Agency reported.
According to the Constitution, parliamentary elections are held four months before the conclusion of the parliament’s term, which is scheduled to finish in November.
The new election is set for September 10. The voting will take place under a new election legislation that assigns 41 seats in the 138-seat legislature to parties.
Jordan’s parliament is bicameral, with the Senate appointed by the monarch and an elected lower body known as the House of Representatives.
