Morocco won their group-stage match against Argentina after a last-minute equalizer was disallowed following a prolonged delay.
A VAR review overturned Argentina’s second goal in the 106th minute. The game was halted by referee Glenn Nyberg due to the intense reaction from the crowd.
Angry at the 15 minutes of stoppage time allotted by the referee, Moroccan fans stormed the pitch, throwing water bottles onto it.
The competition’s official website initially listed the game as “interrupted” before later updating to reflect that the match had indeed concluded.
As the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard emptied, the players were forced to return to the field for an unusual conclusion to the match.
After a 20-minute warm-up, the teams played an additional three minutes of action, with Morocco emerging victorious and taking the top spot in Group B.
