A Moroccan national sought by the Moroccan authorities for his alleged involvement in drug trafficking was arrested by the National Police in Melilla last Friday, according to Spanish media reports citing police sources.
A spokesperson from the Melilla Police Headquarters confirmed that the arrest was made last Friday by members of the Border Operations Group (GOF) at the airport.
Following verification of the Interpol database, the police identified the 29-year-old individual as the subject of a “red notice” issued by the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Morocco on September 25, 2023. He is wanted in connection with alleged drug trafficking in the Nador region.
The suspect, intending to board a flight to Brussels via Madrid, was immediately taken into custody pending extradition procedures.
