The Atlas Lions ended their first match at the 2024 Paris Olympics with a 2-2 tie against Argentina.
Moroccan striker Youssef Rahimi stole the spotlight, netting two goals and propelling his team’s win.
The game started with a high tempo, as both teams looked eager to seize control. Rahimi opened the scoring with a penalty in the 50th minute after a decision by the referee.
Shortly after, he doubled the lead with a well-executed goal with the help of Ilias Akhomach and Bilal El Khannouss.
Argentina, however, managed to hold the line afterward. Giuliano Simeone netted a goal in the 67th minute, closing the gap to 2-1.
In the final moments of the match, Argentina had multiple opportunities to equalize, including a header from Julian Alvarez that went wide and a blocked shot by Claudio Echeverri.
Argentina’s persistent attempts to break through Morocco’s defense were rewarded in the 90+15th minute when Cristian Medina gave his team a stunning equalizer a 2-2 equalizer.
The team is set to face off against Ukraine on Saturday for the second match in Group B.
