Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi on Monday chaired the inauguration of the newly constructed Court of First Instance of the southern city of Laayoune.
With a total area of 8,764 square meters, the new facility, which includes 8,234 square meters of built space, represents an investment of over 68.82 million MAD. It is designed to enhance the working conditions and infrastructure of the kingdom’s southern provinces judiciary.
The court complex comprises a basement, a ground floor, and two upper floors. It houses four courtrooms, 85 offices, detention areas, archive rooms, and a dedicated unit for supporting women and children’s victims of violence.
The facility also features front office spaces, administrative offices, and social areas for staff.
Ouahbi noted that the opening of the new court coincides with the 25th anniversary of Throne Day and is part of a larger initiative to modernize judicial facilities across the country, with a particular focus on the southern provinces.
The minister stated that the city of Laayoune will be home to both a commercial court and an administrative court shortly, with operations set to commence within the next two years with an estimated budget of 32.90 million MAD.
“This expansion project aims to complete the judicial framework in the region and bring the administration of justice closer to its citizens,” he said.
The minister and his delegation visited the court, which features an energy self-production system and reflects both authentic and modern Moroccan architecture.
They also received an update on ongoing projects in the Laayoune judicial district with a budget of over 126 million MAD, including a summer center worth 57 million MAD.
Upcoming projects currently in the planning stage include the development of a new Court of First Instance in Boujdour, with an allocated budget of 45 million MAD.
Plans are in place for the construction of provincial sub-directorate offices associated with the Courts of Appeal in Dakhla and Laayoune, with a budget of 15 million MAD each.
An additional 11 million MAD has been allocated for the establishment of a judicial center in Bir Gandouz.
