The Algerian delegation withdrew from the 6th Arab Young Lawyers Forum that was being held over the weekend in Jordan, objecting to a map of the Arab world that included Morocco’s entire territory, including its southern provinces, according to well-informed sources.
In recent years, Algerian delegations have automatically withdrawn from any forum or event that has displayed a map showing Morocco’s complete territory in conformance with the view of the Algerian regime that any representation recognizing the Kingdom’s sovereignty over its southern provinces is an infringement upon Algeria’s “national sovereignty.”
The action of the Algerian delegation contradicts with Algeria’s long-standing propaganda that it is not a player in the Sahara conflict.
It also highlights the hypocrisy that young lawyers who arguably should be at the forefront of defending the rights of Arab peoples, such as Palestinians, and upholding the territorial integrity of all countries in the region, are effectively called upon to align themselves with the Algerian regime’s divisive policy supporting separatism by the Polisario Front.
