Moroccan police officers in the central cities of Khouribga and Oued Zem seized 2,540 kilograms of cannabis and arrested four individuals suspected of involvement in an international drug trafficking network, according to a security source.
The suspects were apprehended during a targeted intervention in a rural commune of Fennane near Oued Zem.
The suspects were caught red-handed during the act of illicitly transporting narcotics in a van and a pair of all-terrain vehicles.
At the time of their arrest, the suspects violently resisted, wielding bladed weapons. Subsequently, a police officer discharged a firearm in a warning shot, resulting in damage to one of the suspects’ vehicles and the immediate neutralization of the threat.
A subsequent search of the vehicles resulted in the confiscation of 63 parcels of cannabis, collectively weighing two tons and 540 kilograms, along with an inflatable boat equipped with a marine engine.
The suspected traffickers are now in custody under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office which is looking at other individuals who may also be connected to the criminal ring.
