The US State Department has officially sanctioned former IDF Sergeant Elor Azaria for killing a Palestinian civilian in the West Bank in 2016.
The victim, Abed al-Fattah al-Sharif, was already incapacitated having been shot by another IDF soldier.
While the maximum sentence for the crime is 20 years, Azira was charged of manslaughter and sentenced to only 18 months. He only served nine months.
Azaria is now sanctioned from entering the United States, along with his immediate family members, according to converging reports.
In addition to Azaria’s sanctions, the US has expanded visa restrictions on Israeli settlers involved in West Bank attacks on Palestinians.
