Morocco’s police officers stationed at Marrakech Menara Airport arrested a 31-year-old British citizen on Thursday, against whom an international arrest warrant had been issued based on his alleged involvement in drug trafficking, according to a security source.
After verifying the Interpol database, the police identified the individual as the subject of a “red notice” issued at the behest of the National Central Bureau in Manchester, UK, in connection with his alleged involvement in a criminal network in Scotland.
The suspect is accused of illegal drug trafficking, including cocaine, cannabis resin, and synthetic drugs such as diacetylmorphine (used for heroin) and amphetamines, according to the same source.
He was remanded into police custody pending further investigation under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office.
The Interpol Bureau in Rabat is responsible for notifying the relevant British authorities of his detention before initiating extradition procedures.
