Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Moroccan international player Achraf Hakimi have reached a preliminary agreement to extend Hakimi’s contract for additional two years, RMC Sport reported.
“All parties have agreed in principle to an extension, even though nothing has been signed yet to extend his current deal until 2026,” added the source.
Hakimi is considered a vital member of PSG, therefore it is unlikely that he will follow in the footsteps of his former teammate Kylian Mbappe and sign with Real Madrid this summer, despite the rumors.
The extension contradicts a number of claims that first surfaced on websites like “Goal” and “OneFootball,” who said that if Mbappe signs with Real Madrid, he will advocate for his best buddy and former teammate Hakimi to rejoin the team.
Many of these media sources referred to the circumstances as “the Kylian Mbappe effect,” alluding to the speculation that Hakimi would depart PSG in order to follow his teammate.
The Atlas Lion has previously expressed his desire to rejoin Real Madrid in March of last year, and according to sports news site L’Equipe, he is still keen to play at Madrid’s Bernabeu stadium.
Hakimi signed a five-year contract with PSG in 2022, and it expires in June 2026. The French team paid 70 Mln euros to sign Hakimi.
