Nizar Baraka, Morocco’s Minister of Equipment and Water, revealed on Wednesday, that the ministry is prioritizing the development of significant road projects and programs, allocating an estimated 18 billion MAD annually for these initiatives.
In his opening remarks at the national conference on “road exploitation and safety in mountainous areas,” Baraka highlighted the ministry’s strategic focus on road exploitation and safety programs, which have consistently received a dedicated annual budget of over one billion MAD over the past five years.
Baraka highlighted the ministry’s dedication to addressing the specific challenges of mountainous regions by designing and implementing roadways that consider the topography and guarantee consistent and secure routes for users.
“The ministry has over 900 construction vehicles and trucks at its disposal, including 111 dedicated to winter maintenance, to ensure the effectiveness of teams responsible for restoring roads,” he stated.
He highlighted the ministry’s commitment to maintaining road traffic through an efficient and experienced human and logistical system, particularly in remote mountainous regions during winter and in challenging desert areas in summer.
