Ambassador Tariq Ali Bakheet, Deputy Secretary General for Humanitarian, Cultural, and Social Affairs of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), commended the Al-Quds Committee’s efforts to preserve the holy city’s cultural identity yesterday in Rabat.
Heading a substantial OIC delegation on a visit to the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency (BMAQ) in Rabat, Bakheet applauded the agency’s leadership in preserving the cultural heritage of Al Quds (the Arabic name for Jerusalem) and supporting its inhabitants, according to a press release issued by BMAQ.
Bakheet said it’s important to mobilize support for the agency to fulfill its mission because its work is “crucial given the daily challenges faced by the Palestinian people.”
The brainchild of the late King Hassan II, BMAQ was established in 1998 under King Mohammed VI’s presidency of the Al-Quds Committee as a quasi-governmental organization focusing on humanitarian and social issues in Al Quds, Jerusalem. It operates under the Al-Quds Committee to safeguard the holy city, preserve its religious and cultural heritage, and provide support to its inhabitants.
