Morocco, represented by Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, participated in the 45th ordinary session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU), convened in Accra, Ghana’s capital, on Thursday.
During the session, the AU’s foreign ministers are expected to review several reports, including the latest from the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) and the AU’s 2024 theme, “Educating an Africa fit for the 21st century: Building resilient educational systems for increased access to inclusive, quality, lifelong learning relevant to Africa.”
The agenda further covers the AU’s participation in the G20 and various AU partnerships. The Executive Council is also scheduled to adopt the AU budget for 2025.
Morocco’s participation in this session primarily focuses on promoting Moroccan candidates for key positions within the pan-African organization.
The Moroccan delegation includes Mohamed Arrouchi, the Moroccan Permanent Representative to the AU; Mohammed Methqal, Director General of the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation; Imane Ouaadil, Morocco’s Ambassador to Ghana; and Hassan Boukili, Director of Greater Maghreb, Arab Maghreb Union (UMA), and AU Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates.
