Mohamed Boudrika, President of Raja Casablanca Football Club, was arrested on Wednesday in Germany, in connection with an international arrest warrant issued by Moroccan authorities.
Boudrika, who had traveled to Germany from the United Arab Emirates, faces charges of embezzlement, falsification, forgery, among other offenses, according to media reports.
The head of Raja was en route to Hamburg to meet team’s head coach Josef Zinnbauer to convince him to pursue his venture with the reigning Moroccan champions and Thorne Cup winners.
Raja president’s son denied the news, stating: “my father’s arrest is a complete fabrication. He is currently asleep, and I am with him in the bedroom,” sports media outlet Le 360 reported.
In March of last year, Boudrika was sentenced to a one year suspended prison sentence and fined over 232,500 MAD for issuing bounced checks. He had left Morocco in January and has since been recovering from heart surgery in the UK.
He had previously stated that he would return to Morocco once he had fully recovered.
