Large and small-scale fishing products in Morocco experienced a 4% decrease in value, amounting to MAD 4.8 billion during the first half of 2024, according to the country’s National Fisheries Office (ONP).
The weight of these products dropped by 10% to 469,715 metric tons compared to the end of June 2023, ONP pointed out in its latest report.
By species, the landings of shellfish, algae, crustaceans, and pelagic fish decreased by 82% to 24 tons, 39% to 5,914 tons, 25% to 3,863 tons, and 12% to 378,849 tons, respectively.
Conversely, the landings of white fish and cephalopods increased by 6% to 48,925 tons and 5% to 32,141 tons, respectively.
By port, a total of 7,222 tons of coastal and artisanal fishing products were landed in Mediterranean ports by the end of June, down 20% from the same period a year earlier. In terms of value, these ports generated MAD 340.28 million.
Meanwhile, landings at ports on the Atlantic coast decreased by 10% to 462,493 tons and by 4% to MAD 4.46 billion.
