Airseas, a French company specializing in wind propulsion technologies for maritime transport, has inaugurated a testing and research center in El Argoub, located 60 km from Dakhla amounted to 50 million MAD.
The 80-hectare center is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to test and optimize the “Seawing,” an automated wing spanning 1,000 m².
The Seawing is engineered to reduce fuel consumption in ships by 20%. Its innovative system utilizes AI-driven automation to optimize trajectory and maximize efficiency, ensuring rapid installation adaptable to various vessel types.
The site features a 2,400 m² hangar housing mechanical and electronic workshops, along with a command center simulating navigation conditions.
Mounir Houari, Director General of the Regional Investment Center (CRI) of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab told the press that the project will create approximately 30 direct jobs, noting that “the region’s demand for renewable energy projects is expected to positively impact local economic development.”
Masao Nakayama, President and CEO of Airseas, highlighted “Dakhla-Oued Eddahab’s suitability for realizing the project.” He also mentioned its favorable climate conditions and potential to promote green and sustainable development.
Adrien Fortin, Director of Airseas Morocco, underscored the center’s role as “a testing hub for the Seawing, aimed at continuous improvement to achieve their goal of reducing ship fuel consumption by 20%.”
Mohamed Dahbi, Secretary General of Oued Eddahab province, elected officials, consuls general from various countries in Dakhla, and Moroccan and foreign business operators attended the inauguration ceremony.
