Irish airline Ryanair inaugurated a new base in Tangier on Tuesday, marking the company’s fourth base in Morocco that can accommodate two aircrafts and serve 25 routes, including 13 new connections linking Tangier to eight European cities and five new Moroccan destinations for the summer 2024.
The $200 million investment is expected to create 600 jobs, including 60 high-level positions such as pilots and cabin crew.
Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy chaired the opening ceremony.
“Tangier is ideally positioned to become a leading tourist destination.” Ammour said, adding that the company’s substantial investment “not only underscores the growing attractiveness of Morocco, but also the confidence our partners place in our country.”
Eddie Wilson, CEO of Ryanair, stated that this new opening is a key component of Ryanair’s “S24 record program (April to September), which will involve operating more than 170 routes throughout the Kingdom, enhancing tourism and connectivity.”
