Abdellah Bouanou, Head of the parliamentary group of the opposition “Justice and Development Party” (PJD) has called for early elections to gauge public trust in the current government.
Speaking at the PJD group’s weekly meeting on Monday, Bouanou said that “the call for early elections is not driven by partisan motives or an attempt to destabilize the government, but is a democratic exercise that upholds the value of citizens and the importance of their trust in political parties and public life.”
Bouanou added that “the value of public trust has prompted early parliamentary elections in both the United Kingdom and France.”
He pointed out that “the ruling Conservative Party in the UK returned to the people after losing confidence in local elections, and President Macron’s party in France sought the public’s mandate again after suffering a defeat in the European Parliament elections, demonstrating no hesitation in returning to the electorate.”
PJD parliamentary group’s head noted that “there is nothing to fear in holding early elections to seek renewed trust from the citizens,” asserting that “the current government is managing national affairs without the citizens’ trust and has committed significant errors, leading to economic and social crises across all sectors.”
He also pointed out that “every sector has experienced protests and strikes, and the government has failed to implement effective measures to support purchasing power, which has collapsed due to rising inflation.” He went on to say that indicators of corruption, conflicts of interest, unemployment rates, and economic performance “have all worsened during the first half of the government’s term.”
Bouanou also said that the stance on the brutal Israeli aggression on Gaza impacted the early elections in both the UK and France.
He highlighted that parties “showing solidarity with Gaza and Palestine won, while those supporting Israel faced defeat.”
Bouanou reiterated the party’s condemnation of the ongoing aggression on Gaza and called on the Moroccan people to continue their solidarity with Palestine.
