Morocco received 1.5 million tourists in June, marking a 10% increase year on year, the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social Economy said on Wednesday.
“June’s performance confirms the ‘upward trajectory’ of Moroccan tourism, which celebrates the ‘exceptional’ growth in the first half of 2024,” the ministry added. The official body noted Morocco’s global appeal in the tourism sector as “undeniable.”
“Our country’s unique assets, coupled with the implementation of our strategic roadmap, are yielding results. Our goal of 17.5 million tourists is closer than ever,” Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy said.
Morocco had already welcomed an additional 909,000 visitors in just six months, the minister recalled, adding that the original target for 2024 was to attract an additional million tourists for the entire year.
During the first half of the year, 7.4 million people visited Morocco, reflecting a 14% increase compared to 2023 and a remarkable 38% surge compared to 2019.
