Morocco is planning to expand the capacity of its airports to 80 million passengers by 2035, Transport and Logistics Minister Mohamed Abdeljalil announced Wednesday in Rabat.
In his address to the opening session of the 28th General Assembly of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization (OAAC), Abdeljalil noted that this ambitious plan is part of the Kingdom’s preparations for co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
“Morocco will prioritize the renovation of its airports, the development of air navigation equipment, and the enhancement of air connectivity, particularly low-cost, to support the significant role played by civil aviation in the success of major international events,” he underlined.
Morocco’s national air carrier, Royal Air Maroc (RAM), plans to quadruple its fleet by 2037, and to transform Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport into an international inter-continental hub.
Abdeljalil also highlighted Morocco’s efforts in the areas of cybersecurity and the digitalization of international civil aviation, as well as its willingness to adopt legal and regulatory changes to promote this sector.
The minister underlined the Kingdom’s commitment to enhancing civil aviation safety and security. Morocco has achieved notable success, with an average of 85% for the ICAO-led civil aviation safety audit, a testament to the country’s dedication to developing its civil aviation sector.
