Morocco has signed two contracts with American aerospace company Lockheed Martin Aeronautics to provide Morocco’s Air Force and Army with military equipment valued at $520.4 million and $226.9 million, respectively, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.
Under the US Foreign Military Sales initiative, Morocco will acquire advanced electronic warfare systems, specifically the F-16 Viper Shield, which will enhance Morocco’s Air Force defense capabilities. Other nations included in the initiative are the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Republic of Bulgaria, the Slovak Republic and Taiwan.
The cumulative value of the kingdom’s Air Force contract now stands at $897.4 million, with completion expected by June 30, 2028. The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center in Ohio oversees the contracting activities.
The US Department of Defense also said that Morocco will also benefit from the substantial $226.9 million contract with Lockheed Martin Corp. of Grand Prairie, Texas, for the procurement of Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) guided missiles and launching assemblies.
The contract, awarded under a hybrid structure combining cost-plus-fixed-fee and firm-fixed-price elements, reflects Morocco’s strategic investment in defense capabilities similar to other nations and has an estimated completion date of Dec. 30, 2028.
