Morocco, the host nation of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), has been housed in Group B, alongside Gabon, the Central African Republic (CAR) and Lesotho, following the qualifiers draw held in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Thursday.
The draw resulted in 48 nations being allocated to groups of four teams, with the four preliminary round winners (Chad, Eswatini, Liberia, and South Sudan) included.
Group A includes Tunisia, Madagascar, Comoros and the Gambia. Group C consists of Egypt, Cape Verde, Mauritania and Botswana. Nigeria, Benin, Libya and Rwanda are housed in Group D.
Group E includes Algeria, Equatorial Guinea, Togo and Liberia. Group F features Ghana, Angola, Sudan and Niger. Title holder Côte d’Ivoire is placed in Group G alongside Zambia, Sierra Leone and Chad. The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea, Tanzania and Ethiopia form Group H.
Mali, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau and Eswatini are in Group I. Group J has Cameroon, Namibia, Kenya and Zimbabwe. South Africa, Uganda, the Republic of Congo and South Sudan are in Group K. Lastly, Group L consists of Senegal, Burkina Faso, Malawi and Burundi.
The qualifying rounds will begin in September 2024, with only 23 teams progressing to the AFCON championship.
The biggest African sporting event will be held between December 21, 2025, and January 18, 2026, in the Kingdom of Morocco.
