Sixteen people were reported dead and 2,446 injured, 97 of them seriously, in the 1,790 road accidents in urban areas on June 24-30, according to the latest bulletin from Morocco’s National Police (DGSN).
The main causes of the crashes are drivers’ inattention, failure to give priority, speeding, failure to keep a safe distance and pedestrians’ inattention, the DGSN pointed out in a press release.
Concerning traffic violations, security services issued 41,248 tickets, 7,168 incident reports and collected 34,080 transactional fines.
The total sum collected from fines amounts to approximately 7.3 million MAD, according to DGSN.
The operations also resulted in impounding of 4,362 vehicles, confiscating 7,168 documents, and withdrawing 270 vehicles from circulation.
