Police at Tangier airport on Tuesday arrested a Spanish national, under an international arrest warrant issued by Andorra’s judicial authorities, according to security sources.
The 44-year-old man was caught upon his arrival in Northern Morocco on a flight from Spain following an Interpol’s red notice issued against him for drug trafficking.
The detainee has been sentenced to prison in Andorra for his involvement in a criminal gang specializing in smuggling cocaine, ecstasy and methamphetamines between Spain and Andorra. The gang is also involved in laundering the proceeds from smuggling operations.
The suspect was remanded into police custody and brought before the prosecutor’s office, while the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Rabat, under the National Police (DGSN), has notified the Andorran authorities of the arrest.
