Yahya Sarea, the spokesperson for Yemen’s Houthi rebel group, announced on Monday that the group had conducted military operations targeting four ships sailing under Israel, US, and UK flags in the Red Sea, the Arabian Gulf, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Indian Ocean, Reuters reported.
They first targeted the MSC Unific, an Israeli ship sailing in the Arabian Sea. They then attacked US oil tanker Delonix in the Red Sea twice this past week.
The third operation targeted the U.K. landing ship Anvil Point sailing in the Indian Ocean, followed by a fourth attack on a ship in the Mediterranean Sea that Sarea referred to as the “Lucky Sailor.”
Reuters was not able immediately to verify the claims.
The Iran-backed militia group has previously targeted several Western ships, including the UK-owned Rubymar in March, the Israeli Unity Explorer, and the Number 9 in December 2023.
The spokesperson for the Houthi group cited its solidarity with the Palestinian people in response to “demands from the Yemeni people” as a reason for the attacks.
