The current operational capacity of energy projects is approximately 4,600 megawatts, Morocco’s Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Leila Benali announced on Monday, during a parliament session, in Rabat.
In response to an oral question regarding the “universalization of clean energy,” Benali highlighted that the government had authorized clean energy projects with a capacity of 2,000 megawatts.
She also stated that a series of procedures and measures had been implemented to accelerate the widespread use of clean energies. In this respect, she added that the amount of annual investments has increased from 4 billion MAD in 2017 to 15 billion MAD by 2027.
Among the measures that have been taken, according to the Minister, is the removal of the main obstacle to the widespread use of clean energies, namely the energy grid.
He also noted that investments exceeding 30 billion MAD have been mobilized.
Benali announced that legislative reforms have led to the adoption of legal texts for developing “decentralized production related to clean energies,” resulting in the publication of tariffs for electricity network and system services on January 31, 2024.
