Approximately 49.5 million people across France are scheduled to cast their ballots on Sunday in the initial round of early parliamentary elections.
The first-round elections were called by President Emmanuel Macron on June 9, following the dissolution of the National Assembly in the wake of the far-right’s victory in the European elections.
The electorate will vote in a direct two-ballot election for 577 deputies, with the second round scheduled for July 7. The deputies will serve in the National Assembly for the next five years.
A total of 4,010 candidates are running on this ballot, representing a decrease of approximately 2,280 candidates compared to the 2022 elections.
The preliminary results of the first round will be released by the Ministry of the Interior this evening at 8:00 pm (local time).
The election campaigns of the various political parties address some key issues, including the cost of living, wages, pension reform, immigration, taxation, energy prices, and the war in Ukraine.
