Moroccan skateboarder, Aya Asaqas, has secured a spot in the 2024 Olympics in Paris, the Moroccan National Olympic Committee (CNOM) announced on Monday.
At age 21, Asaqas earned a slot for the Paris Olympics after competing in the Olympic qualifying series in Shanghai.
Following Shanghai, she further solidified her position by excelling in the final leg of the qualifiers held in Budapest, Hungary, on June 20-23. She emerged as the only Arab and African woman to qualify, achieving an impressive 44th place on the World Skateboarding Ranking with a score of 3.869.
The Royal Moroccan Federation of Urban Sports announced the beginning of the Moroccan champion’s journey on May 15, stating: “We are incredibly proud to announce that our athlete, Aya Asaqas, is participating in the first stage of the Olympic Qualification Series (OQS) in Shanghai for the 2024 Paris Olympics.”
To date, Morocco has qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics in 16 sports disciplines including athletics, rowing, boxing, breakdancing, canoeing, cycling, fencing, football, wrestling, surfing, taekwondo, shooting, triathlon, equestrian sports, beach volleyball, and skateboarding.
