Morocco and the Gambia signed a cooperation agreement on Tuesday to promote and protect the rights of women, children, and people in vulnerable situations and promote training in social action.
It was signed by Moroccan Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family Aawatif Hayar and Gambian Minister of Gender, Children and Social Welfare, Fatou Sanyang Kinteh.
“Morocco has taken important steps in social action, particularly through institutionalizing professions,” Hayar said, noting that this agreement includes a significant number of programs for persons with disabilities, the elderly, and children.
The Moroccan official added that she discussed with her Gambian counterpart means of strengthening cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the area of women’s economic empowerment.
The two parties also discussed Morocco’s achievements, notably in advancing women’s and children’s rights, universal health insurance, and reinforcing social protection.
For her part, Kinteh said that “the Gambia and Morocco share several challenges relating to issues of women, children, the elderly and people with special needs, expressing her wish to see the cooperation between the two countries strengthened to jointly promote several initiatives in this area.”
The Gambian minister also conveyed her country’s desire to benefit from the Kingdom’s experiences, particularly in the promotion of women’s and children’s rights as well as social inclusion.
