Moroccan hotels saw an unprecedented increase in overnight stays in the first four months of 2024, with 7.8 million registered, marking an increase of 6.8 % compared to the same period of last year, according to the Economy and Finance Ministry’s Department of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF).
This rise is notably driven by an 11% increase in non-resident overnight stays, DEPF pointed out in its latest report, adding that Moroccan hotels saw a significant increase in overnight stays (+17.2%) in April.
DEPF noted that the tourism sector commenced the summer period of 2024 with a record number of 1.3 million tourist arrivals for May alone. The high figure represented a 18.2% growth compared to May 2023.
This performance was mainly driven by the growth in foreign tourist arrivals, up 21.8%, constituting 57.6% of the total arrivals. Moroccan expatriates’ arrivals saw an increase of 13.7% in May 2024.
By the end of the first five months of this year, Morocco welcomed a record of over 5.9 million tourist arrivals, a 15% increase year on year.
The number of foreign tourist arrivals, comprising 56.4% of all arrivals, increased by 16.8% by the end of May, while Moroccan expatriates’ arrival showed a 12.7% rise.
