The second annual session of the Executive Board of the World Food Programme (WFP) kicked off on Monday in Rome under the chairmanship of Morocco’s Permanent Representative in Rome, Ambassador Youssef Balla.
During the session, Executive Director Cindy McCain provided updates on the WFP’s institutional and operational priorities, highlighting the institution’s recent organizational reforms.
McCain stressed the importance of securing financial resources for proactive measures to address the impacts of climate shocks and recurring humanitarian crises globally. She also briefed the Board on operations in priority areas such as Gaza, Sudan, the Sahel, Haiti, Yemen, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Ukraine.
UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths; Managing Director of Equity Group Holdings James Mwangi; a bank specializing in services in Kenya; and other African countries were among the guests of honor during this session.
The annual session, held from June 24-28, included side events, exhibitions, and a review of the WFP’s 2024-2025 biennial work program. As well as discussions centered on proposed changes to the WFP’s evaluation policies and strategic plans for various countries.
