The Moroccan men’s beach volleyball team secured their spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday after beating Mozambique and South Africa in the championship held in Martil, North Morocco.
Comprised of Zouheir Elgraoui and Mohammed Abicha, the Moroccan men’s team defeated Mozambique in the final in straight sets (21-18, 21-12).
The national team had reached the final by besting the South African team, who finished third, in a thrilling three-set match (18-21, 21-18, 15-10).
The Moroccan women’s side settled for a third place after losing in the semi-finals to their Egyptian counterparts. Egypt secured their ticket to the Paris Olympics when they claimed the African title over Nigeria in a tight three-set battle (15-21, 21-16, 15-08).
The championship included 17 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams held by the African Volleyball Confederation in collaboration with the FRMVB.
Martil is currently hosting the African U-19 Beach Volleyball Championship, a qualifier stage for the World Championship in China.
