US State Department spokesperson, Matthew Miller, on Friday commended Morocco’s “regional leadership”.
“The U.S. is grateful to Morocco for their regional leadership”, Miller said in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), following a phone call between Secretary of State, Antony Blinken and Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.
Blinken had a “productive discussion” with Mr. Bourita, the spokesperson added.
Earlier this month, Blinken and Bourita engaged in a phone conversation during which they discussed the US proposal aimed at achieving a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and ensuring the release of all hostages.
The United States highlighted the importance of Morocco’s support to this proposal as “a way to build a more integrated, more peaceful and more stable Middle East”.
The Kingdom “hopes that the various parties concerned will adhere to this initiative and commit to implementing its different stages”, the ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates underlined in a press statement.
