Morocco was elected to the presidency of the World Union of Mutuality (UMM) on Friday in Porto during the 6th General Assembly of the union.
Represented by President of the General Mutual Society of Public Administration Staff (MGPAP) and the African Union of Mutuality (UAM) Brahim Al Atmani, this election is in recognition of Morocco’s distinguished experience in mutuality, which has marked a notable path in managing the General Mutual Society, according to MGPAP’s press release.
Al Atmani reviewed in his speech during the event the main pillars of the strategy of the governing bodies of the General Mutual Society, which includes the adoption of a five-year strategic plan for 2021-2025.
This plan seeks to enhance proximity, quality, diversification, and improvement of administrative, social, and health services for over 453,000 members and 423,000 of their dependents.
This was achieved through the establishment of regional centers, regional and provincial directorates, and local service agencies throughout the Kingdom, as part of the effective implementation of the Royal Social project for the generalization of social protection and universal health coverage.
“This achievement is the result of significant efforts by the current governing bodies to establish the foundations of decentralization and devolution by transferring several competencies to the regions, such as medical follow-up, recovery, complaints, and social security files,” Al Atmani added.
Al Atmani noted that Morocco’s presidency of the UMM enhances its prominent position in Africa through its leadership of the UAM. This aims to promote South-South cooperation, exchange experiences, and establish a robust mutuality system that has shown resilience against economic, social, and health challenges, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The UMM General Assembly also provided an opportunity to showcase the experience of multidisciplinary solidarity medical caravans for MGPAP members and vulnerable and needy groups.
This was done in coordination with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and in partnership with the High Commissioner for Former Resistance Fighters and Former Members of the Liberation Army, in the Southern Provinces from May 20 to June 10, 2024, benefiting more than 53,235 people across all specialties.
