Twenty Moroccan pilgrims have died during the 2024-1445 Hajj season, Morocco’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs said on Friday.
The number of deaths among Moroccan pilgrims is roughly identical to the same period of last year’s Hajj, the ministry pointed out in a press release.
The ministry stated that the fatalities were attributable to natural causes, adding that 15% of Moroccan pilgrims this year are over the age of 80.
The statement added that during the last two decades, the number of deaths among Moroccan pilgrims has fluctuated between 30 and 45 every year.
The total death toll from this year’s Hajj approached 1,000, according to Saudi sources.
