Morocco’s airports received 12,353,496 passengers in the first five months of 2024, a 19% increase over the same time last year, according to the Moroccan Airports Authority (ONDA).
International traffic rose by 19% to 11,135,210 passengers, while domestic traffic grew by 18% to 1,218,286 passengers, ONDA pointed out in a press release.
International traffic was driven by the launch of several new international air routes serving Morocco’s airports, the same source noted, citing Marrakech-Leeds Bradford (UK), Tangier-Lisbon and Barcelona, Rabat-Istanbul, Barcelona, Paris CDG, Brussels and Basel Mulhouse (Switzerland), Tetouan-Amsterdam and Bilbao, and Casablanca-Abidjan.
Cargo traffic totaled 39,655 tonnes in the first five months of 2024, up 27% on the same period a year earlier.
In May 2024 alone, Moroccan Airports recorded a commercial traffic volume of 2,827,570 passengers, a sharp increase of 20% compared to the same month in 2023.
Mohammed V International Airport, which accounts for 31% of overall traffic, welcomed 869,278 passengers, up 4% on May 2023. Likewise, most other airports posted strong growth, notably Rabat-Salé (+48%), Agadir Al Massira (+40%), Marrakech-Menara (+34%), Tangier Ibn Batouta (+33%), Oujda Angads (+14%) and Fez Saïss (+9%).
