The Spanish government on Tuesday reiterated its firm commitment to continue cooperating with Morocco to combat wildfires.
“In accordance with bilateral agreements signed with several countries, Spain will intensify collaboration with Morocco in wildfire prevention and control efforts,” the Spanish government office stated in a press release following its Council of Ministers meeting.
Spain adopted a forest fire prevention and control action plan for 2024 to establish the measures through which the central government will support regional firefighting programs. The comprehensive plan will coordinate the entire state’s policy in this area.
The Morocco-Spain agreement endorses the measures outlined in the 2024 forest fire prevention and control action plan and acknowledges the progress made in implementing the measures outlined in the previous 2023 plan.
Since 2005, the Spanish government has been implementing a range of interdepartmental measures annually as part of its wildfire prevention and control action plan.
