The Spanish Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration reported on Tuesday that Moroccans led the way as the top contributors to Spain’s social security system in May.
The ministry revealed that 358,371 Moroccan workers were actively contributing to the system, showing an increase of approximately 11,500 from April and surpassing Romania, which had 351,890 members.
After Moroccans and Romanians, the next highest contributors were from Colombia (205,890), Italy (194,182), Venezuela (157,784), and China (157,784).
May saw a record number of foreign social security contributors, reaching over 2.8 million marking an increase of 77,912.
Since December 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of foreign contributors has increased by 627,864 individuals.
Approximately 1.9 million individuals from non-EU countries (67.9%) and 925,282 from EU countries (32.1%) are also among the total foreign workers contributing to the Spanish social security system in May.
70,675 Ukrainians were registered in the social security system, marking a 49.5% increase from January 2022 before the recent conflict with Russia began.
The total number of foreign workers consisted of nearly 1.6 million men and over 1.2 million women.
