The headquarters of US presidential candidates Joe Biden and Donald Trump have settled on the rules for the first electoral debate. It will take place on the same podium, but their places will be determined by a draw.
Biden and Trump will speak without a draft and will be present in the audience at the CNN studio.
During the speech, the microphone will only be turned on for the candidate speaking at the time.
They will not be allowed to take props or pre-written notes on stage – they will only be given a pen, a notebook and a bottle of water.
There will be no audience in the room, and the debate will last 90 minutes with two breaks.
Neither Trump nor Biden will be able to communicate with representatives of their campaigns during the pauses.
“But, as in the past, the moderators will use every tool at their disposal to enforce the timing and ensure a civilized discussion,” said CNN.
On November 5 this year, the next presidential election is scheduled in the United States.
The leading candidates are current US President Joe Biden and Donald Trump, who has been president until 2020.
Biden may withdraw his candidacy from the election. Michelle Obama, wife of former President Barack Obama, could replace him.
Donald Trump is also demanding that Joe Biden submit to a drug test before their joint debate.
