King Mohammed VI pardoned 1,484 convicts on the occasion of Eid Al Adha (Sacrifice feast), according to the Ministry of Justice.
The beneficiaries are either detained or serving a suspended sentence, the ministry pointed out in a press release.
The detained are 1,209, including 171 inmates who benefited from pardon over their remaining prison sentences, 1,094 prisoners who got their prison sentences reduced, and one had his/her life sentence commuted to fixed prison terms.
Those with suspended sentences are 275: 69 persons benefited from pardon over their imprisonment terms or remaining prison sentences, 06 people benefited from pardon over their imprisonment terms while maintaining the fines, 189 people had their fines annulled, 09 others received pardon over both their prison terms and fines, and two convicts were pardoned over their remaining prison sentence and their fine were annulled.
Royal Pardon is customary in Morocco to mark religious celebrations and national holidays.
