Morocco’s police on Thursday launched an investigation into a prisoner breakout from a healthcare institution in Casablanca, security sources reported.
The fugitive, who was convicted in a theft case, managed to flee while under medical supervision.
“The escapee had exploited weaknesses in the surveillance protocol and potential collusion among some employees to facilitate his evasion before surrendering to the authorities shortly after committing the criminal act,” the source stated.
The ongoing investigation aims to identify the involvement of the escaped prisoner and his spouse in allegedly attempting to bribe custodial staff.
The scrutiny, according to the source, is focused on a private security guard, a police officer, and a member of a rapid intervention unit, all of whom are suspected of actions or oversights that might have facilitated the breakout.
In the course of the judicial inquiry, legal restrictions have been imposed on the escaped inmate, his spouse, and all suspects to facilitate the investigation and assign accountability to the responsible parties.
