Chinese Vice-Minister of Culture and Tourism, Quan Rao, on Thursday called for further boosting tourism cooperation between Morocco and China, underlining that the kingdom is a rapidly growing destination for Chinese tourists.
New air routes will contribute in further boosting tourist flows between the two destinations, underlined the Chinese official, quoted in a press release published following his talks with Morocco’s Minister of Tourism, Handicraft, Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatim-Zahra Ammor.
For her part, the Moroccan minister expressed her desire to further promote Chinese tourism investment in Morocco, thus joining the ongoing momentum in the kingdom, particularly ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
She also called on Chinese tour operators to fully integrate Morocco into their programs, to enable Chinese tourists to discover the country’s diverse tourist experiences, including culture, desert and seaside holidays.
Morocco hopes to welcome some 500,000 Chinese tourists a year, who on average spend twice as much during their stay as American tourists. With a population of 1.4 billion and 150 million annual travelers, China is the world’s leading tourist-sending market.
This focus on China aligns with Morocco’s impressive tourism rebound. By the end of May 2024, the country had already welcomed over 5.9 million visitors, reflecting a 15% increase compared to the same period last year.
