National Police officers arrested two suspects allegedly involved in the possession and trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances, on Wednesday evening in the central cities of Safi and Essaouira, according to a security source.
The suspects were arrested during a security operation in the village of M’ramer, located in the vicinity of the city of Essaouira (457 km from the capital Rabat), the same source pointed out.
During this operation, 15,397 pills, 750 grams of cocaine, as well as 2.7 kg of cannabis resin (Chira) were seized.
The authorities also confiscated a sword, a vehicle, and a sum of money believed to be the proceeds of their criminal activity.
Upon the arrest, as a precautionary measure, a police officer discharged a warning shot, neutralizing the threat and apprehending the suspects, who both refused to comply and threatened the police officers with a bladed weapon.
After cross-checking the database, the police identified one of the accused as the subject of several national wanted notices issued at the behest of the judicial police in Marrakech and Safi.
The suspects are currently in custody, pending further investigation by the prosecutor’s office.
