The Israeli army used medieval arms to set fires in southern Lebanon using a trebuchet, an advanced catapult employed in the Middle Ages, to throw incendiary explosives, ostensibly to reveal Hezbollah hiding near the border as shown in a video that went viral on social media.
The Israeli army is burning woodlands to get at Hezbollah fighters before they launch attacks on Israel.
Hezbollah launched more than 200 missiles toward northern Israel on Wednesday, following Israel’s killing of a senior commander from the group the previous evening.
A spokeswoman for the Israeli army confirmed the weapon’s deployment, but stated that it was a “local initiative and not a tool that has come into widespread use”.
On October 8, last year, Israel and Hezbollah clashed, one day after Hamas launched a strike against Israel, and since that day over 37,000 Palestinians have been killed in the war on Gaza, the great majority of them are civilians.
Eight months of warfare between the organization and Israeli forces has killed at least 467 people in Lebanon, the majority of whom are fighters but also include nearly 90 civilians.
Israel claims at least 15 Israeli soldiers and 11 civilians were killed.
According to Axios, US officials are “scrambling” to prevent an all-out war between Israel and Hezbollah.
