China and Morocco signed, on Thursday in Rabat, a cultural cooperation agreement spanning the years from 2024 to 2028.
Signed by Mohammed Mehdi Bensaid, Morocco´s Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, and China’s Vice-Minister of Culture and Tourism, Rao Quan, the agreement aims to strengthen and expand cooperation to facilitate cultural exchanges, encourage bilateral visits, and create initiatives and cooperation frameworks to promote the cultures of both countries.
The initiative encompasses enhancing collaboration and coordination within the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), as well as an exchange of know-how and ongoing training.
“The Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of China share a long and common history,” Bensaid stated. “The new cultural cooperation program is designed to leverage culture to reinforce the existing political and economic initiatives, thereby strengthening the bilateral partnership between the two countries.”
He also advocated for the expansion of the Moroccan presence in China through the promotion of artistic and cinematic works and joint initiatives.
“Culture is a soft skill that can be leveraged to foster closer ties between Moroccan and Chinese peoples,” Bensaid asserted.
Rao Quan expressed his commitment to fostering closer ties between Morocco and China in the cultural sphere.
He also welcomed the growing collaboration between the two countries in areas such as youth engagement, arts, cultural exchange, cultural heritage preservation, and training.
