The first-ever Montreal-Marrakech flight by Canadian airline Air Transat landed Thursday at Marrakech-Menara Airport, according to Morocco’s National Tourist Office (ONMT).
Chief Revenue Officer at Air Transat, Sebastian Ponce, Transat’s Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Joseph Adamo, and other officials from Transat Group were onboard, marking a significant milestone in ONMT’s “Light In Action” marketing campaign to penetrate the North American market.
Canada is emerging as an increasingly important market for Morocco’s tourism. Airline seat capacity from Canada to Morocco has increased by 87% over the past 10 years, rising from 87,000 to 164,000 seats per year.
ONMT and Air Transat’s strategic partnership, signed on October 25, 2023, led to the opening of the new route.
Air Transat, currently the only North American airline offering direct flights to Marrakech and the second North American airline to operate in Morocco after Air Canada, will fly twice a week in summer and once a week in winter.
Skytrax ranked Air Transat as the “world’s best leisure airline” in 2023.
The new route is expected not only to boost tourism in Marrakech, but also to provide travelers with easier access to coastal resorts in Essaouira, Taghazout, and Agadir, as well as mountain and ecotourism destinations (Azilal, Beni Mellal), the south (Ouarzazate, Zagora, and Merzouga), and even city break and cultural destinations in the North (Casablanca, Rabat, Meknes, and Fes).
