Tourist arrivals in Morocco soared to over 5.9 million in the first five months of 2024, a 15% increase over the same time last year, the Ministry of Tourism, Crafts, Social and Solidarity Economy announced on Tuesday.
The Moroccan tourism industry continued to grow in May, with over 1.3 million arrivals, an increase of 772,000 over May 2023. This represents double-digit growth of more than 18%, the ministry pointed out in a statement.
Moroccan expatriates also contributed to the growth in tourism with a 13% upsurge, according to the Ministry.
“We are proud of the progress we have made over the past 30 months in collaboration with professionals and our partners,” Minister of Tourism Fatim-Zahra Ammor said.
“As we enter the summer season, all promotional, aviation, and reception arrangements in tourist facilities have been meticulously planned to ensure an exceptional experience for our visitors,” Ammor added.
She also highlighted that Morocco has a well-defined strategy for the tourism sector, with a goal of receiving 26 million tourists by 2030, which is in line with the recently launched 2023-2026 roadmap, which has a budget of 6.1 billion MAD.
As of the end of 2023, investment in the tourism sector had reached 8 billion MAD.
